Cancelled NBC drama may head 'Southland' to TNT

TNT is inches away from acquiring the recently cancelled NBC drama "Southland," which would restore an annulled cable series, which is an uncommon feat in the entertainment industry.

Cancelled NBC drama may head ‘Southland' to TNT

TNT is this close to brokering a deal which would bring the recently cancelled NBC drama "Southland" to its network.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "The cable network began conversations with corporate sibling Warner Bros. TV, which produces the cop drama, shortly after ‘Southland' was abruptly canceled by NBC earlier this month. Though a deal has not been completed, it now appears likely.'"

If the deal goes through, it will accomplish a rare rebirth of a cancelled cable series, an achievement that could not be made with other shows such as the Fox sitcom "Arrested Development," the CBS vampire drama "Moonlight" and the NBC veteran comedy "My Name Is Earl."

The HollywoodReporter.com article goes on to say that, "'Southland,' executive produced by John Wells, shot six episodes of its second season before being shut down by NBC.'"

If TNT does add "Southland to its drama series stable, it will join the network's other successful dramas such as "The Closer," and "Dark Blue," which stars actor Dylan McDermott.

"Southland" premiered on NBC on April 9, 2009 in the timeslot previously occupied by the hit medical drama "ER." Its cast includes Arija Bareikis, who starred opposite ex-"Saturday Night Live" alumni Rob Schneider in the 1999 comedy "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" Regina King, who starred opposite Will Smith in the 1998 thriller "Enemy of the State" as well as opposite Sandra Bullock in the 2005 comedy "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous" and Tom Everett Scott, who starred in the 1996 Tom Hanks-directed musical dramedy "That Thing You Do!"
