Ricky Gervais to host the Golden Globes
Comedian Ricky Gervais has been chosen as the host for the 67th annual Hollywood Golden Globe Awards, Variety reported today.
A surprise on both sides because the Awards have not allowed a host since 1995 and Gervais had called hosting an awards show a "thankless task for a comedian," in a September interview with The New York Times.
Even though The Golden Globes have not had a need for a single host since 1995, officials decided this year Gervais would fill in the gap, after his appearance on last year's Awards, because of his comedic talents.
Gervais had rejected many other offers of hosting similar to the Globes Award but felt the Golden Globes will give him more "free reign as a host," and also admitted there are some offers which should not be turned down. Gervais is a British comedian mostly known for the original UK version of "The Office."
