NCAA to continue investigation of Michigan football

The NCAA has informed the University of Michigan that their investigation into practice violations isn't over

The University of Michigan is finding out just how persistent the NCAA can be.

According to an AP report, the NCAA has given the university a notice of inquiry stating that it will continue to look into allegations against the football team.

The NCAA began to investigate the Michigan football team earlier this fall. The investigation stems from a report in the Detroit Free Press that the school routinely violated practice time limits. Various anonymous sources were quoted, with both former and current players. Many individuals have come to head coach Rich Rodriguez's defense, perhaps most notably Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel.

Rodriguez has denied all allegations, saying that the team knows the rules and follows all of them. He has agreed to cooperate with any investigation.

University President Mary Sue Coleman said in a statement Monday that the school and the NCAA will continue to work together on an "objective investigation."

If found guilty of a violation, the university could face a loss of scholarships and future practice time. It would be the first major violation in the history of Michigan football.
