Scarlett Johansson to Segue Into Broadway
27-Oct-2009
Written by: Pahull Bains

Scarlett Johansson is branching out from Hollywood – early next year she will appear in a Broadway drama.

Actress Scarlett Johansson will make her Broadway debut starring in a revival production of Arthur Miller's drama "A View from the Bridge," the show's organizers confirmed on Monday.

Johansson will star opposite actor Liev Schreiber in the drama set in a 1950s Italian-American neighborhood. It is about a married Brooklyn dockyard worker, Eddie Carbone (Schrieber), consumed with an incestuous desire for his 17-year-old niece, Catherine (Johansson). The story ends in tragedy when Catherine begins seeing another man.

Schreiber has already appeared on Broadway several times, and is a Tony Award winner. Other cast members will be announced at a future date, according to the show's promoters.

The production, which will be directed by Gregory Mosher, will open on Jan. 24 and is scheduled for a 14-week run at the Cort Theatre, with previews beginning on Dec. 28.

Other high-profile film actors who appeared on Broadway this year include Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Sienna Miller, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
