Ricky Gervais has won Golden Globes for The Office and Extra, being the only two British sitcoms to ever win awards at a U.S. awards ceremony. Now he has been picked to host the Golden Globes Awards on January 17 in Los Angeles.
Gervais accepted the role after producers told him he would have free reign. Gervais said to BBC, "There are just some things you don't turn down."
Over the past few years, the Golden Globes have not had a main host but have used numerous celebrities to present the individual awards. Gervais has told BBC, "He would be reluctant to host the Oscars because of the lack of freedom in the presenting role."
Nominations for the 67th Golden Globe Awards will be announced on December 15.
