Swisher benched for Game 2
29-Oct-2009
Written by: Matt Bultman

Struggling outfielder Nick Swisher will watch Game 2 from the bench.

The New York Yankees line-up will look a little bit different tonight.

According to the AP, Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher will be enjoying the game alongside Joe Girardi and the rest of the Yankees coaching staff.

Girardi has decided to sit the struggling right fielder in favor of Jerry Hairston Jr. Hairston is a career 10-27 against tonight’s Phillies starter Pedro Martinez.

Swisher post-season woes continued last night when he went 0-3. For the playoffs as a whole, Swisher is hitting only .114, with no home runs and 12 strikeouts.

Jose Molina will also replace Jorge Posada behind the plate. This decision was expected, however, as Molina has caught every game A.J. Burnett has pitched so far this postseason.

These changes come after last night’s loss in which the Yankees managed only one run off Phillies starter Cliff Lee.

The Phillies will look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series tonight before they head back to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Saturday night.
