Shaquille O'Neal has applied to become a member of the Cleveland Police Department.

Shaq Vs. Press Conference

Shaquille O'Neal loves the city of Cleveland. So much so in fact, Shaq is willing to protect the city free of charge.

AP sources report that the newly acquired Cavalier center has applied to become a member of the Cleveland Police Department.

According to spokesman John O'Brian of the Cuyhoga County sheriff's office, O'Neal has applied for the position of special deputy. This means that the O'Neal would be able to carry a gun and make arrests but would not receive any pay for his services.

The sheriff's office has reportedly forwarded the application to the state agency who will then decide whether or not to deputize O'Neal. If approved, state agency spokeswoman Holly Hollingworths said that Shaq would need 36 hours of police training and would have to pass the state of Ohio's police exam.

This would not be Shaq's first job in law enforcement. O'Neal has served roles with agencies in Arizona, Virginia and Florida.
