Tyra Banks’ biracial, blackface photoshoot stirs a bit of controversey.

America’s Next Top Model has a very controversial photo shoot where some contestants don blackface.

Is it ever okay? French Vogue was slammed for its October issue featuring fair-skinned supermodel Lara Stone painted up in black face. Weeks later, an Australian variety show made headlines after a group of white performer donned blackface to perform as the Jackson 5. Now it’s Tyra’s turn.

During Wednesday night’s episode of America’s Next Top Model on the CW, the remaining six cycle 13 contestants traveled to Hawaii where they were transformed into different biracial characters.

Tyra assigned Erin Wagner to be “Tibetan, like the Dali Lama, and Egyptian”; Laura Kirkpatrick to be “Mexican and Greek”; Jennifer An, who is Korean, was made up to look “Botswanan and Polynesian”; black model Sundai Love was made to look “Moroccan and Russian”; Nicole Fox was “Malagasy and Japanese,” and Brittany Markert was put into makeup to look “Native American and East Indian.”
