Marc Cherry Inks New "Desperate" Deal With ABC

ABC's "Desperate Housewives" will continue to shock, amaze and keep viewers on the edge of their seats until at least 2013 due to creator/executive producer Marc Cherry signing a new deal with the network.

The hijinks and drama that adorn the lives of the women who reside on Wisteria Lane will continue to grace our television screens as Desperate Housewives will continue to air through 2013 thanks to a new deal creator/executive producer Marc Cherry recently signed with ABC.

According to Variety.com:

"As part of a two-year extension Cherry signed with ABC Studios, Cherry will remain exec producer of Housewives for an eighth and ninth season. Whether or not Housewives continues until then will now depend on the show's core cast members, who are only committed through the 2010-11 season, the show's seventh."

In addition, another key player on the Housewives production team, executive producer Bob Daily, has also signed a two-year extension agreeement with the network. This will enable him to stay with the series through its projected eight and ninth years.

Though, Daily's responsibilities on the show will increase as a result of Cherry turning his attention to other network projects. So, if any of Cherry's other endeavors gets picked up, Daily's role in the everyday workings of Housewives would become even more vital.

The Variety.com article then talks a bit about Cherry's other network ventures:

"Cherry now has two projects in the works for the Alphabet, including a drama he's writing with Housewives exec producer Alexandra Cunningham. The two of them will exec produce along with another Housewives exec producer, Sabrina Wind."

As for the other project, Cherry is working with scribes Jeffrey Bowen and Hunter Bell on a multicamera comedy about two brothers who share a gynecological practice, but one sibling is gay and the other is straight and neither brother has a clue about the opposite sex.
