Hawkeyes remain undefeated
1-Nov-2009

The Iowa Hawkeyes escaped with a win Saturday, improving to 9-0 on the season
The Iowa Hawkeyes survived a Halloween scare of their own.
Quarterback Ricky Stanzi threw career high 5 interceptions, but came through when the Hawkeyes (No. 4 BCS, No. 7 AP) needed him most, leading Iowa to a 42-24 victory over Indiana (4-5).
Stanzi finished the day 13-26 for 337 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both touchdowns came in the 4th quarter.
Perhaps the biggest play of the day was made by Iowa’s defense. Trailing 21-7 and with Indiana threatening to score yet again, when Hoosier’s quarterback Ben Chappell was hit while he was releasing the ball. The ball bounced off of 4 separate players, before being gathered in by Iowa defender Tyler Sash, who returned the interception 86 yards for the score.
The Hawkeyes trailed 24-14 heading into the 4th quarter, but rallied to score 28 unanswered points. Iowa is now 4-0 when trailing after three quarters. The Hawkeyes 9-0 start is the best in school history, with 4 of those wins coming by three points or less.
Iowa controls their own destiny in the Big Ten as they are the only team undefeated in league play. If the Hawkeyes win out, they remain in the hunt for a chance to play in the BCS National Championship game.
