Bea Arthur Leaves Thousands of Dollars for LGBT Youth

Bea Arthur left a sizable donation in her will for the benefit of youth children who need shelter.

Late actress Bea Arthur, "The Golden Girls," left a $300,000 donation to New York's Ali Forney Center, reported CNN.

The "Golden Girls" star included the donation on her will for the organization which supports homeless LGBT youth.

Carl Siciliano, executive director, said he was aware of Arthur's will inclusion but knew nothing about the sizable amount.

In 2005 Arthur agreed on performing a benefit after a former set designer's request to help the, at the time, small organization which only sheltered 12 kids. Arthur managed to raise more than $40,000 from her one night show "Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends" for the organization.

New York's Ali Forney Center aids more than 1,000 people each year providing shelter for the kids who leave home and has about 125 kids a night waiting to get into the housing.

The $300,000 donation will go toward buying a new residence which can house 12 children at a time and will be named after Arthur.
