Acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman will next be featured in a yet unnamed Warner Bros. comedy penned by a relatively new comedic writing duo.
Morgan Freeman is attached to star in an as-yet-untitled Warner Bros. comedy by Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The script, which had a working title of ‘Dirty Old Men,’ revolves around an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life and his best friend and wingman for the past 40 years (Freeman) who does everything to break up the new couple. The tone is described as similar to ‘Wedding Crashers’ and ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin.’”
Peter Segal is looking to direct the motion picture. Meanwhile, Freeman’s producing partner, Lori McCreary, will produce under the pair’s Revelations Entertainment banner, alongside Segal and his producing partner, Callahan Filmworks' Michael Ewing. Freeman will be the film’s executive producer.
Segal’s directing credits include the 2003 Adam Sandler/Jack Nicholson comedy “Anger Management,” the 2004 Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy “50 First Dates” and the 2008 Steve Carell/Anne Hathaway comedy “Get Smart.”
Rumor has it that Warner Bros, would be tickled pink if Nicholson were to join the project and reteam with Freeman, who he co-starred with in the studio’s 2007 smash “The Bucket List.” Currently, Nicholson is not attached to the project but knows of it.
As for Cagan’s writing credits, they include penning the 2009 musical dramedy “Bandslam,” which starred “High School Musical” alum Vanessa Hudgens and ex-“Friends star Lisa Kudrow.
The HollywoodReporter.com article then points out that, “Coolidge last year sold a high-profile pitch to Paramount titled ‘Cockblocker’ with Seann William Scott and Topher Grace attached. They are buddies though a six-man writing troupe dubbed the Job Factory.’”
As for Freeman’s next appearance on the silver screen, it will be in the Clint Eastwood-directed Warner Bros. film “Invictus” where Freeman portrays anti-apartheid activist and former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. In addition, Freeman will start shooting Summit Entertainment’s action thriller entitled “Red” in January.
