Glasvegas to Lay Down Drum Tracks at Rick Rubin's House
UK media darlings Glasvegas played an intimate fairwell set in London several days ago and will be heading out to America as the band prepare to follow up their self titled debut album with producer extraordinaire Rick Rubin.
Fresh off an opening slot touring with Kings of Leon last month, the Glasgow natives are ready to call Los Angeles home for the next few months. The band has been invited by Rubin to record the drum parts in his home.
"We were supposed to go over there a few days ago but we've put it off for a couple of weeks because it felt like it was going too well [demoing the album] in Glasgow," vocalist James Allan told NME.
Rich Costey, known for his work with such acts as Franz Ferdinand and Muse, is set to produce the four-piece as he did their previous record. The band hopes to bring as much demoed work with them into the LA studio as possible. A surprise twist is how love will play a prominent theme for this dark quartet known for their bleak lyrics.
"Love gained and love lost," Allan explained. "The idea of finding love and losing love. I still think I'm clueless when it comes to songwriting and describing how I'm feeling, what I've seen and what comes to me in the middle of the night. But it is an album of love songs. It is a definite follow on from the debut, which also had love songs on it, but was mainly about having aspirations to love."
