Kate Winslet Wins $40,000 lawsuit
Kate Winslet won $40,000 in a libel lawsuit against a British newspaper, People magazine reported.
On Jan. 30 the British newspaper, Daily Mail, ran a story headlined "Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the World's most irritating actress?" in which the paper made false allegations. The newspaper reported Winslet lied about not exercising at all during the awards season.
On Tuesday at the High Court in London the paper recognized the allegation was false and agreed to pay damages, legal costs and to publish an apology.
Academy Award winner of the Best Actress' for the film "The Reader," 34-year-old Winslet, told reporters on January she was not exercising at all and eating whatever she likes in order to avoid putting any extra pressure on herself.
At age 33, Winslet became the youngest actor to receive six Academy Award nominations, surpassing Bette Davis, who was 34 years old when she received her sixth Oscar nomination.
