Film-maker Joss Whedon bid $10,000 for the film’s rights after the current owner sought bankruptcy protection.
No, seriously. What would the governator say?
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creating, filmmaking Joss Whedon said he wants to buy the Terminator franchise for only $10,000. No, there are no missing zeros. $10,000.
Maybe Whedon felt after four movies and a television show, the Terminator franchise lacked some oomph.
2009’s Terminator: Salvation, starring Christian Bale, made $371 million worldwide, according to boxofficemojo.com.
In contrast, 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, which featured Arnold Schwarzenegger who gained his name from Terminator fame, made $433 million.
Despite an obvious dwindling in interest of robots with firearms for limbs, rights to make new Terminator films are expected to collect more than $60 million at auction, the Financial Times reported, according to CNN.com.
CNN.com also reported after Halycon, Terminator’s current owner sought bankruptcy protection, it decided to auction off the rights to make future movies, TV shows, games and DVDs.
Whedon may have to increase his bid a bit or tell that franchise, “Hasta la Vista…baby.”
