Awards were given to designers and retailers for excellence in a variety of categories at Monday night’s awards.
The 13th annual Accessories Council Excellence Awards in Manhattan took place Monday night at Cipriani restaurant, where many style icons were honored for their work.
Burberry won Brand of the Year while Tomas Maier was presented with the Designer of the Year award, reports Style.com. Betsey Johnson handed the honor of Retailer of the Year to Zappos.com while wearing pants with the retailer’s name splashed across the back. Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes, accepted his Humanitarian award.
The endlessly shocking Lady Gaga was also recognized, although she did not arrive on time to the event. Of course, Gaga showed up with an outfit that strayed far from normal. Her ensemble included underwear worn on top of the outfit, an Erickson Beamon black lace headpiece, an absurdly puffy platinum-blonde wig, and white powder sprinkled over everything to top it all off. A picture of the outfit is featured on E‘s website.
While on the red carpet, Gaga did not answer any questions, but was plenty talkative once it came time to accept her award.
The singer thanked Marc Jacobs, Hedi Slimane, Stephen Gan, Davice LaChapelle, Araki, and Nasir Mazhar, according to Style.com. She also ended her speech on an interesting note, advising those in attendance “the most important fashion accessory is the condom.”
