"Terminator Salvation" In Limbo

Halcyon production company plans on selling their 'Terminator' franchise.

Halcyon Holding Group, a production company that produced “Terminator Salvation”, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August. The bankrupt company plans on auctioning the rights to the “Terminator” movie franchise, early next year.

A company advisor said on Tuesday, a strong interest is already being shown.

Halcyon gained the rights to the franchise in 2007 for about $25 million. The rights consist of money from future films, DVDs, video games and television for the series. The company only has limited or no rights to revenue from the first three “Terminator” films.

Senior Managing Director of FTI, Kevin Shultz, says an auction is expected to happen by January the latest. The buyer will receive the right to make future sequels and the remaining profits from “Terminator Salvation”.

“Salvation” cost about $200 million to produce and grossed $371 million worldwide.

Derek Anderson, Co-Chief Executive of Halcyon, believes that the franchise is worth more than $60 million.
