Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin have been named co-hosts by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 82nd Oscars that will air on March 7, 2010.

Martin has hosted the 73rd and 75th Oscar shows and has also been a presenter.

This is the first time that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has had a duo hosting the Oscars since 1957. But the 1957 telecast featuring Jerry Lewis and Celeste Holm didn't have the pair share the stage. Lewis controlled the main event in New York and Holm was the New York master of ceremonies from a simultaneous affair.

The only time two hosts have been on the same stage was at the first ceremony in 1929. The Oscar telecast was presided over by Douglas Fairbanks and William C. DeMille.

Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman, the Oscar telecast producers, said in a statement "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event."
