“Sesame Street“ turns 40 on Novemeber 10th
On November 10, “Sesame Street” will be celebrating its fortieth anniversary. The show premiered back in 1969 and has been ever since on the PBS network, providing educational learning for youngsters.
According to CNNInternational.com, the revolutionary educational television program started as “learning tool for inner-city children -- not only as a supplement to their lessons in math and the ABCs but to teach them to be good people and show them that learning can be fun.”
40 years later the show still continues that fundamental idea, but it is intended for all children everywhere. The show it self as been etched in to pop culture, with many famous celebrities, musicians, and even political figures gracing the show as guests.
As reported on NYDailyNews.com, “The groundbreaking show, produced by the Children's Television Workshop and a staple of public broadcasting, was years ahead of its time in promoting values that are now taken for granted in many places - accepting and appreciating diversity, not making assumptions based on gender, and being sensitive to cultural and economic differences, are all ideas the show emphasized before it was fashionable to do so.
