Parents Organization Attacks "Gossip Girl"

The president of the Parents Television Council is urging the CW to preempt Monday night's episode of "Gossip Girl."

At the finish of the promo for "Gossip Girl's" upcoming episode, the screen reads "TV to talk about," but if a parent group has anything to do with it, there will not be an episode to talk about next week.

Clips for the episode that will air on Nov. 9 hint at the inclusion of a threesome, and the Parents Television Council is not thrilled with the idea. PTC president Tim Winter wrote a letter to CW Network President and all affiliates requesting that the episode be stricken from the series, according to PTC's website.

In a statement released Wednesday, Winter's claimed that airing the episode would be "reckless and irresponsible," reports the Associated Press.

He went on to suggest that the content was comparable to pornography.

"Will you now be complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films?" he asked in the letters.

Paul McGuire, CW spokesman, did not have a comment on PTC's questions and accusations, but did specify that the target audience for "Gossip Girl" is 18-34, with the median age being 27.

Winter's deemed that this assertion "doesn't even pass the ‘laugh test', claiming that the show is "expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers.

A threat was also issued in the PTC statement.

"If this program violates broadcast decency law," the statement warned, "rest assured that our members will contact the Federal Communications Commission."

If all goes as now planned, the episode in question will air Monday, Nov. 9, at 9 p.m.
