The singer hopes to be a positive influence on young girls who are in abusive relationships.
R and B singer Rihanna finally opens up about the relationship between her and Chris Brown. In her interview with Diane Sawyer, which aired in part on “Good Morning America” on Thursday, she hopes to help young girls in the same situation get out of their abusive relationships.
"Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won't? Who's to say that they won't kill these girls?" she said in the interview. "These are young girls, and I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened. It was a wake-up call."
Now that Rihanna has been a victim of Brown, she regrets ever getting involved with him in the first place.
"I fell in love with this person," she revealed in the interview. "That's embarrassing."
Even though the singer fell head-over-heels for Brown, she knew that she could never go back to an abuser.
"It was a wake-up call for me, big time, especially when I took myself out of the situation. And I'll say that to any young girl who is going through domestic violence: Don't react off of love," Rihanna said. "F love. Come out of the situation and look at it third person and for what it really is, and then make your decision, because love is so blind."
Rihanna, 21, briefly reconciled with Brown, 20. However, she then realized her decision was selfish and could negatively impact other young girls’ lives.
"When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part," the singer explained. "I couldn't be responsible for that. Even if Chris never hit me again, who's to say their boyfriend won't? Who's to say they won't kill these girls? I didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened."
The interview will air in its entirety on “20/20” on Friday night.
