“Golden Girl“ Hospitalized After Heart Surgery
5-Nov-2009
Written by: Ingrid Bergquist

Rue McClanahan is recovering from a heart bypass she underwent on Tuesday.

Rue McClanahan went through heart surgery this past week, according to Reuters.

McClanahan, best known for her role as ‘Blanche Devereaux’ in “The Golden Girls,” is recovering in the hospital from a heart bypass surgery she had on Tuesday.

On Monday the 75-year-old actress went to the doctor, who asked her to check into the New York hospital for irregular heartbeat. She immediately went to surgery the nest day, on Tuesday.

McClanahan played the promiscuous character of ‘Blanche’ alongside Estelle Getty, who played “Sophia,” Betty White, whose character was named “Rose,” and Bea Arthur who played “Dorothy.”

In 2008 Getty died of natural causes at her home in Hollywood at the age of 84, followed by Arthur’s death in 2009 at the age of 86, who left a substantial amount of money to the LGBT homeless youth in her will.

A tribute to “Golden Girl,” McClanahan on November 4th at the Castro Theater has been cancelled due to the heart ailment and hospitalization.
