Oprah Moving To Cable?
Oprah Winfrey is supposed to make an announcement by the end of the year regarding whether or not "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will move to cable.
Harpo Inc., Winfrey's production company, said Thursday that her syndicated talk show may move to her new cable network called the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
OWN is a collaboration with Discovery Communications Inc. and was originally slated for a 2009 release which has been delayed. The new cable network will be available in over 70 million homes.
CBS Corp's CBS Television Distribution syndicates Oprah's show. Walt Disney Co's ABC's owned and operated TV stations broadcast the talk show.
Les Moonves, CBS's CEO, said in a statement, "We're obviously in constant conversation with Oprah. She's a legend and one of the great assets we have."
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" is a top-rated daytime U.S. show which averages 7.1 million.
