Rue McClanahan Has Bypass Surgery
Rue McClanahan, 75, is recovering from a bypass surgery that was performed in New York on Wednesday. She is expected to make a full recovery and partake in shooting an undisclosed movie project in January.
The actress was diagnosed on Monday during a routine physical exam with acute cardiac illness.
McClanahan is best known for her role as the promiscuous Blanche Devereaux from 1985-1992 on the hit television series "The Golden Girls". This year she has appeared on "Law & Order".
"The Golden Girls" star will miss a gala in her honor on Nov.14 in San Francisco at the Castro Theatre.
In a statement McClanahan said: "Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I'm currently in the hospital having some maintenance on the old ticker, trust me, I'd much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you."
"Golden: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan" would've entailed a look-a-like contest, a sing-along to the "Golden Girls" theme song and featured clips of the actress.
