Jawbox Release a Sweetheart Deal

Band to perform for one night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Jawbox, DC's creators of really beautiful noisy music are buzzing again. Desoto and Dischord Records are delivering a re-mastered "For Your Own Special Sweetheart," Nov 24 on CD and vinyl.

J. Robbins, singer/guitarist for the band believes "Sweetheart" to be the bands best effort telling Spinner it's "when we found our voice."

The band took heat from locals and loyal Dischord fans who resented the band for leaving the indie label after releasing two albums and signing with Atlantic Records in 1994. Jawbox proved critics wrong and their passion and conviction remained in tact.

The band had the opportunity to work with Bob Weston – who played bass with Steve Albini in Shellac and also served as his asst engineer on Nirvana's "In Utero" album – to tweak the sound that had been bothering Robbins all these years.

"Our only long-standing reservation about 'Sweetheart' is the low-end. It just had this, I don't know if it was the '90s and people had a certain sound in mind, but the low-end on that record is real scooped out," Robbins admits referring to the bass frequencies.

"The record has this gnarly sounding top-end. It's a really thorny sounding record for a major label debut. No major label would issue that record now. There's no hope of it being hit. It's willfully abrasive. There's a lot about the sound that's really cool, but the low-end is receding.

"It's exciting, period, just to hear the record," Robbins continues. "But it sounds so much more physical and present now. Like this is a band in front of you. It's like there was something in there that was waiting to be set free. Bob nailed it."

The CD features artwork by Jason Farrell and includes three additional tracks from the "Savory" EP and the LP features a free MP3 album download coupon (which includes the 3 "Savory" EP tracks).

On Dec. 8 the band will be together on stage for the first time in 12 years and perform on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. This will be a one night only performance and the band has no intention to reunite or tour.
