LeBron James Doesn't Rule Out Signing With New York Knicks in 2010
New York Knicks fans have witnessed an assortment of baffling and seemingly incompetent decisions that have been made by the team's front office that have made the franchise a laughing stock over the past several years. However, many Knicks supporters have been clinging to hope that current Cleveland Cavaliers small forward LeBron James would come to New York when he hits free agency in the summer of 2010.
On Thursday night, James spoke to the media about how he expects to approach his upcoming free agency status and did not rule out the thought of potentially signing with the Knicks. His statements came one night before the Cleveland Cavaliers were scheduled to make their first and only visit to Madison Square Garden this season to play against the Knicks.
James said, "I don't tease, I've never teased the New York media by saying I was coming to New York or playing for the Knicks. When July 1 gets here, I'm going to approach it like a business man and approach it for the best fit for LeBron and his family. For me to say I'm not going to be a Knick, I'm going to be a Cav or I'm going to be a Knick, I'm not going to do that. I did the three-year contract for a reason, I'm going to leave my options open."
The speculation that has been circulating amongst Knicks fans in regards to LeBron James' upcoming decision has gradually increased ever since Donnie Walsh became the Knicks' General Manager. Walsh has cleared a significant amount of salary cap space in order to prepare the franchise for the summer of 2010, when several NBA superstars such as James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire are slated to become free agents.
