Democratic Leaders to Alter Aspects of Their Health Care Reform Bill
Earlier today, Democratic leaders announced that they expect to delay the upcoming vote on their final health care reform bill as a result of their inability to generate enough support from members of the House of Representatives. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced that the vote on the bill could potentially be delayed until Sunday or until early next week in order to provide prominent Democratic leaders with an opportunity to add necessary alterations.
According to Fox News, Republican House representatives are unanimously opposed to the Democratic Party's health care bill. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi initially indicated that the bill would be posted online for everyone to visualize 72 hours before lawmakers would be scheduled to vote on the proposal. However, due to the changes that are expected to be made to the bill it appears that the House will not be living up to its pledge.
Spokesman for Minority Leader John Boehner, Michael Steel, provided a statement on behalf of Boehner that reads, "If Speaker Pelosi intends to address critical issues like taxpayer funding for abortion in the rule, they should make it available for the American people to read for 72 hours. Transparency means putting the whole bill online for 72 hours."
