White Sox Decline Dye’s Option for 2010

The Chicago White Sox will not pick up right-fielder Jermaine Dye’s option for 2010, allowing him to become a free agent.

The Chicago White Sox have declined to pick up veteran right-fielder Jermaine Dye’s option for the 2010 season, opting instead to buy out his contract to save money, reports MLB.com Dye’s option was worth $12 million, but the White Sox chose to buy him out for $950,000.
According to the Canadian Press, the former World Series MVP will become a free agent. Dye, 35, batted .250 with 27 home runs and 81 RBI in 141 games this season. With more and more teams looking to save money, it remains to be seen where Dye will play next season.
