Lopez Tonight to take talk shows in new direction
Comedian George Lopez will make his debut appearance on his new talk show "Lopez Tonight" late Monday night, where he says he will take a very differet approach to the dry talk shows of Jay Leno or David Letterman, according to the San Antonio Express News.
One of the major changes will be a newfound focus on diversity as the comedian finds current talk shows to be "a little down and very white."
"We're going to have a more diverse and more inclusive array of guests," Lopez said to writers.
What's more, there wil be no script. No set monologue. He will take things as he goes, opening each night with a stand-up routine or at tomes even a musical appearance.
And the show itself will be more interactive, as the audience wil become part of the act, asking questions and even having opportunities to join Lopez on stage. In terms of the guests, he said he wants the to feel more comfortable on his show than others.
"I don't want them to be springboards for my punch lines, and I'm not going to read cards over their shoulders," he said. "I want them to shine."
This Monday night's debut will feature guests Eva Longoria Parker from TV series "Desperate Housewives," NBA star KobeBryant, and comedian Ellen DeGenenres.
Future guests, thus far, include Sandra Bullock, Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Marc Anthony, Oscar de la Hoya, and Ray Romano.
The show will air Monday through Thursday nights at 10 p.m.
