The future for Wanda Sykes

Wanda Sykes new TV show debuts Saturday. Or does it?

The Wanda Sykes Show is to make its debut apparance as a new weekly talk show this Saturday on Fox.

Or is it?

This is not the first time Sykeks has attempted to create a television show with Fox. Her first attempt, "Wanda at Large," was a miserable one. The 2003 situation comedy was to appear after "American Idol" every week, as promised by the network. But as fall rolled around, things changed. The show began to be played on Friday nights, and was cancelled mere weeks later.

"It's just the business of network TV," Ms. Sykes said with a sigh. "It wasn't just Fox I was leery about. It was the whole thing of: ‘Do I really want to get back in there? I know how hard it is to launch a show. Do I want to spend that much energy, and everything is just left up to them?' "

And it is difficult to tell what lies ahead with her second venture at her own TV show. This new show will replace "Mad TV," which ran for a long 14 seasons. And with more female and minority writers than any other late nite show, she is unsure what this will mean, she told.

The program will be an hour long each Saturday night and wil endwith a 'Bill Maher-type discussion" focusing on topics such as the news, Sykes style, a long with her stand-up comedy.
