Broadway's Spider-Man Announces New Producer And Star
Newcomer Reeve Carney, has been cast has Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the upcoming Broadway play, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." Reeve Carney, 26, is the lead singer of the rock band Carney. Reeve will also appear in the big-screen adaptation of "The Tempest."
Reeve will join Even Rachel Wood as Mary Jane (Peter Parker's girlfriend) and Alan Cumming as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Bono and the Edge from U2 will do the score.
Also announced Michael Cohl joined the production as lead producer. Jeremiah J. Harris is now second producer on the show. The full production team is Cohl, Harris, Hello Entertainment; David Garfinkle, Marvel Entertainment; David Maisel, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The musical is scheduled to open sometime in 2010 at the Hilton Theatre in Manhattan. Initially it was set to open late March but recent rumors have it opening past April 29, the cutoff for the Tony Award nominations. New financing is expected shortly for a proposed budget of $52 million.
