40-year-old Jason Rodriguez, who shot six people earlier today in Orlando, Florida, had filed for bankruptcy and was under the impression that his former employer had been preventing him from receiving benefits
Earlier today, 40-year-old Orlando, Florida resident Jason Rodriguez returned to the Reynolds, Smith & Hills Inc. engineering firm that he had worked at two years ago and opened fire on employees, killing one individual and injuring five others. He was taken into custody within hours after the tragic incident occurred and according to police, Rodriguez decided to resort to shooting employees in the company’s building as a result of frustration over his economic situation.
According to CNN, Rodriguez filed for bankruptcy in May as a result of his inability to generate a consistently reliable income. At the time that he filed for bankruptcy, Rodriguez allegedly owed a significant amount of money to several sources which include but are not limited to back taxes, credit card debt, child support, rent and phone service.
After he was taken into custody by police, Rodriguez told the authorities that he was under the impression that his former bosses at Reynolds, Smith & Hills Inc. had effectively prevented his efforts to receive unemployment benefits by blocking him. The Associated Press is reporting that the gunman had been working as a part-time sandwich artist at a local Subway restaurant and that he had become increasingly frustrated over the amount of hours that he received per week.
