Tyler’s Days with Aerosmith Numbered?
6-Nov-2009
Written by: Robyn Chelsea-Seifert

Questions surrounding singer’s future with veteran rock band remain unanswered.

Rumors are running high that Aerosmiths’ days with singer Steven Tyler at the helm is numbered.

Tyler, 61, broke his shoulder and required stitches to his head after falling during a South Dakota performance in August. Aerosmith canceled the rest of their summer tour with ZZ Top as a result of his sustained injuries. The summer tour was plagued by illness and mishap for several members including Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton. Whether it was the cause or the final straw, the strain was taking its toll on the band who by now is barely speaking to Tyler.

Following a performance at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Steven commented about his future to Classic Rock Magazine saying he didn’t know what he was doing yet but “it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself - Brand Tyler.”

The band is just shy of their 40th anniversary and is facing several uncomfortable meetings to discuss how to move forward and what steps to take if the real possibility of replacing their charismatic singer should become a reality. Aerosmith without Tyler? Are we staring down another Van Halen situation? This isn’t the first time the band has been on the brink.

“I'm not sure how good that would look, it would largely depend on who we could get and who would want to do it,” Whitford said. “That's big shoes to fill. Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him - he's one of a kind. But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?”

Guitarist Joe Perry has just released an album “Joe Perry.. Have Guitar, Will Travel,” and will play several dates through Dec. He hopes to still record the next Aerosmith album with Tyler.
