Kidman joins film adaptation about the first post-operative transsexual
Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman will join fellow Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow in the film adaptation of the David Ebershoff novel, "Danish Girl," which tells the real life tale of the first post-operative transsexual, Einar Wegener and his wife, Greta.
An article on Variety.com describes the plot of the film, "One afternoon in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta, a portrait painter, asked her husband to stand in for an absent female model. Slipping on a dress, stockings and woman's shoes began a metamorphosis into Lili. When the photos became wildly popular, Greta encouraged her husband to do more, but a harmless game evolved into something deeper that threatens their marriage."
The film's script was penned by Lucinda Coxon, who also wrote the screenplay for the 2002 Helena Bonham Carter/Olivia Williams/Paul Bettany romantic drama "The Heart of Me." Meanwhile, Gail Mutrux, Anne Harrison and Linda Reisman will be producing, alongside Kidman and Per Saari.
Kidman will be portraying Einar, while Paltrow will assume the role of Greta, who stood by her spouse through the sex-change operation but in the end, had to let him go upon realizing the man she married no longer existed.
The Variety.com article then delves into who is backing up this factual film, "Footprint Investments LLC is financing, and international sales are being handled by Kathy Morgan at KMI. Pic is a coproduction between Pretty Pictures in association with Harrison Productions and Blossom Films."
Currently, Paltrow has just wrapped up filming "Iron Man 2" opposite Academy Award nominated actor Robert Downey Jr., which is set to open May 7, 2010.
As for Kidman, she has several projects in the works for 2010, one of which is entitled "Rabbit Hole," which is currently in post-production and also stars Aaron Eckhart, Dianne Wiest, Sandra Oh and Jon Tenney.
