Gator Coach Fined $30,000 For Comments

Urban Meyer was fined by the SEC after criticizing officials after Saturday’s game
University of Florida Coach Urban Meyer has been fined $30,000 by the SEC for his comments after Florida’s most recent game against Georgia.
According to ESPN, the decision came Friday from SEC commissioner Mike Silve.
This is the first fine issued by the SEC under their new penalties, created to increase the punishment for publicly criticizing officials.
Meyer says that he respects the decision and apologized for his remarks.
Meyer made his comments Wednesday, after saying that officials missed should have called a late hit when Georgia linebacker Nick Williams after he took Gator’s quarterback Tim Tebow to the ground well after Tebow released the football.
The SEC officials have been under much scrutiny this season after a series of questionable calls. The SEC went as far as to suspend a crew of officials after the Arkansas-Florida game on October 17. The crew was suspended after SEC officials ruled they had made calls that were not supported by video evidence.
