LeBron James narrowly missed out on a triple double in tonight’s 100-91 victory over the New York Knicks, scoring 33 points, recording 9 assists and 8 rebounds

In his only scheduled regular season visit to Madison Square Garden, Cleveland Cavaliers small forward LeBron James made sure to leave a lasting impression in the minds of New York Knicks fans who will continue to fantasize about the notion of James signing with their favorite team when he hits the open market in the summer of 2010. He led the Cavaliers to a 100-91 victory over the New York Knicks on Friday night, posting 33 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds.

Throughout ESPN’s broadcast, James responded to questions about the New York Knicks history as well as his impending free agency period in the summer of 2010. James said “I think the NBA is missing out on the fact that the Knicks haven’t been great in a few years now. We all know the history of the Knicks. We all know what’s happened in this building and what the Knicks franchise has done for this league. As a fan, I think it would be great someday, or one day, when this franchise can be particularly good.”

James, a life-long New York Yankees fan, watched while current Yankees players including Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and C.C. Sabathia were introduced to the Madison Square Garden crowd prior to the game to a deafening ovation. His drawing power was exemplified by the various celebrities who attended the game, which included hip-hop artist Jay-Z, director Spike Lee and comedian Chris Rock.
