President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be attending the Fort Hood Memorial on Tuesday
The White House has officially announced that President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be attending the Fort Hood Memorial, which is being held in tribute to the 13 individuals who were killed on Tuesday’s tragic and unexpected shooting. The memorial will be held on Tuesday, which will be exactly one week after the Fort Hood killings took place.
Former Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan was the Fort Hood gunman who took the lives of 13 members of the military last Tuesday. He was subdued by authorities after being shot four times in a confrontation and he is currently listed in stable condition.
According to The Washington Post, President Obama is scheduled to begin his tour of Asia on Wednesday, just one day after the Fort Hood Memorial is being held. Earlier this week during his radio address, President Obama described the Fort Hood mass shooting as a crime against our nation, according to Reuters.
He elaborated on his viewpoint by saying, "It is an act of violence that would have been heartbreaking had it occurred anyplace in America. It is a crime that would have horrified us had its victims been Americans of any background. But it's all the more heartbreaking and all the more despicable because of the place where it occurred and the patriots who were its victims.”
