Former Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan shot and killed 13 people at Texas’ Fort Hood military base before being subdued by authorities

In one of the most graphic displays of soldier-on-soldier violence in U.S. history on Tuesday, former Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan shot and killed 13 members of the military at the Fort Hood military base located in Texas. Fox News is reporting that Hasan, who is currently listed in stable condition after being shot four times when he was subdued by police on the scene, is likely to face the death penalty for multiple counts of first-degree murder.

The punishment that will be handed down is contingent on the number of first-degree murder counts that he will be found guilty of. Military law experts are reporting that there is expected to be an overwhelming amount of evidence against him in the courts.

According to Fox News, the former Army psychiatrist turned Fort Hood gunman has yet to be officially charged but experts are speculating that he will receive one count of first-degree murder for each of the 13 people that he allegedly killed. Retired Navy lawyer Philip Cave is predicting that the military court process could last for at least five years or as long as 15 years.

In a statement that he provided to Fox News, Cave said, "Obviously, we're all guessing, but it's reasonable to believe that he will be convicted and sentenced to death. [The charge sheet will be] one longer than I've ever seen in my life time in the Army."
