Joe Francis Sentenced to Probation
A judge sentenced "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis on Friday after the soft-core porn entrepreneur pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges.
U.S. District Judge S. James Otero punished Francis with 301 days already served and a year of probation. The defendant must also pay nearly $250,000 in restitution to Internal Revenue Services, reports the LA Times.
In September, Francis pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns and bribing jail workers for food. The businessman failed to report over $500,00 in interest incomes and gave guards at his Nevada jail an estimated $5,000 in goods in return for privileges.
Originally, Francis was indicted by a federal grand jury on tax evasion charges in 2007. The charges at that time involved $20 million worth of faulty tax deductions.
Francis had an optimistic viewpoint of the proceedings once his sentencing was finished.
"I think we won that one," he said after the hearing.
Now that he is free, save for his probation restrictions, Francis plans to avoid more legal troubles and focus on projects related to "Girls Gone Wild."
