Alabama beat LSU to secure the SEC West title and spot in conference chapionsip game
Alabama survived a scare for their second game in a row, clinching a birth in the SEC Championship game in the process.
Heisman Trophy candidate Mark Ingram racked up an impressive 144 rushing yards against a stout LSU defense in rout to the Crimson Tide’s 24-15 win.
The win came off a 12-10 win over Tennessee two weeks ago when Alabama had to block a last second field goal attempt to seal the victory.
The Tigers were playing without quarterback Jordan Jefferson and running back Charles Scott for a majority of the second half. A win would have put them in control of the SEC West.
Instead, the Crimson Tide improve to 9-0 on the year and 6-0 in what many believe to be the strongest conference in the country.
Alabama wide out Julio Jones caught a 73-yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter and kicker Leigh Tiffin knocked home a 40 yard field goal with just over three minutes to play to seal the win for Alabama.
The Crimson Tide’s defense also stepped it up a notch in the 4th quarter, limiting LSU to 9 total yards of offense.
Alabama has started 9-0 for the second consecutive year, the first time they have done so since 1973-74 under legendary coach Bear Bryant.
