Former Presidents Clinton and Bush Pull Out of Scheduled Joint Appearance
The spokesmen for former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have come forward to announce that they have pulled out of a joint appearance that was scheduled for February of 2010 due to disagreements with handlers over the way that it was being promoted. This announcement comes later in the same week that the former Presidents opted to cancel a separate joint appearance that was going to be held in New York City.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that promoters for the joint appearance were labeling the event as, The hottest ticket in political history' and they appeared to be insinuating that it would be a fierce debate-style discussion between the two political powerhouses. However, both Clinton and Bush had intended on engaging in a moderated panel discussion with one another.
The promotion company that was in charge of marketing the joint appearance had been hired by New York City's Madison Square Garden and they have not publicly commented as of yet in response to the canceling of the event. However, the spokesman for the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, has provided an explanation on his client's behalf.
Clinton's spokesman, Matt McKenna, said, ""We canceled the event because of a violation of contract and a promoter who insisted on billing it as something it wasn't." McKenna went on to clarify that the fee that the President's were slated to receive played no role in their decision to pull out of the appearance.
