A Christmas Carol - World Film Premiere - Inside Arrivals

The top movie for this weekend was Disney's "A Christmas Carol" starring Jim Carrey. The animated film brought in $31 million in ticket sales.

The Disney animated remake of the classic Charles Dickens story, knocked Michael Jackson's swan song "This Is It" to number 2 with a respectful $14 million.

The film features, "Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge and also as the three holiday ghosts that show Scrooge the error of his miserly ways, "A Christmas Carol" came in on the low end of Disney's expectations for opening weekend" as reported on MSNBC.com.

Though lower then what Disney expected in numbers, they are relying on the 2 months till Christmas time to strength the overall ticket sales for the film, especially Thanksgiving weekend.

According to HollywoodReporter.com, The film "illustrated the growing appeal of 3D. Of the 3,683 locations in which the movie played, 181 offered it in Imax 3D; RealD dominated the non-Imax 3D showings, with 1,535 locations using its technology. Nearly three-quarters of the movie's $31 million gross."
