Pixies Doing Much To Promote "Doolittle"
9-Nov-2009
Written by: Robyn Chelsea-Seifert
Band has free album giveaway and concert recordings for their fans.
The Pixies, out celebrating 1989 again with the Doolittle tour ripped from their classic album bearing the same name, are making up for lost time. Having just returned from Europe, the band will play two benefit shows at the Echoplex in L.A Dec. 8 and 9 to raise money for Winston's Village.
The charity supports the family of Winston Bertrand, a nine-month-old baby born with lymphatic and venous malformations, two rare and life-threatening conditions. Pixies frontman Black Francis will host the event. Opening night will feature Weird Al Yankovic confirmed to sing with the band in addition to Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea filling in on bass.
Black Francis will be a triple threat that evening when he performs not only with the Pixies but as a solo artist and with the band he formed with his wife Violet Clark called Grand Duchy. Also scheduled to perform are members of Love and Rockets and She Wants Revenge, as well as Michael Penn and the 88.
The following evening Francis will host a night of comedy. The bill includes Tim and Eric, Bob Odenkirk, Brian Posehn, and Pixies drummer David Lovering.
Current stop on the Pixies tour is Oakland, CA. where the band will perform Nov. 9 and 10. The band is recording all shows live in CD format, digital download, and 2GB USB bracelet. The website will send the purchase directly to you but starting in New York you will be able to pick items up after the show. New York shows are Nov. 11/23-25 (with an early and late show on the 25th).
For a limited time you can go to www.pixiesmusic.com and download the “Doolittle 20th Anniversary Live Sampler” recorded while the band was recently in Paris. Songs include: “Dancing the Manta Ray,” “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” “Crackity Jones,” and “Gouge Away.”
