Ashlee Simpson to Start on Broadway’s “Chicago“
9-Nov-2009
Written by: Ingrid Bergquist

After being booted by the producers of Melrose Place, Ashlee Simpson will start in Broadway’s “Chicago.“

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is set to play in the Broadway production of “Chicago,” Gossip Cop.com reported.

Simpson-Wentz will be playing Roxie Hart, a showgirl accused of murder, in the Broadway production.

The 25-year-old actress and musician joins the cast after the much talked about cut from prime-time soap opera CW’s “Melrose Place.” According to Us magazine Simpson-Wentz was cut from the television drama because producers say she has poor acting skills.

On November 2 Simpson-Wentz’ 29-year-old sister, Jessica Simpson, made headlines when told via Twitter she thought “Melrose Place” is crap and the show had been lucky to get Ashlee to boost their ratings.

Simpson-Wentz starred in the 2006 London’s West End production of “Chicago,” and the show’s producers were pleased with her performance and wanted her for the Broadway show. The Broadway “Chicago” production will be Simpson’s Broadway debut.

The play will start in December and will be running for six weeks.
