Sheneneh and Wanda Return After A Long Hiatus.
Wazzup, wazzup, waaazzzzzuuuuup??
Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx, that's what's up. Both comedians got their beginnings on television, Lawrence with his own show, The Martin Lawrence Show, and Jamie Foxx on In Living Color. Something else they both had in common? Dressing up as stereotypical black women for regular appearances on their respective productions. The result: hilarity.
Sheneneh (Martin) and Wanda (Jamie) made their first screen returns in a parody of a movie trailer for a film called Skank Robbers during the BET Awards. Reminiscent of the 90s comedy era, the spoof garnered enough positive response that the duo has decided to push for a real film entitled Sheneneh and Wanda.
The film will branch off the idea of the fake movie trailer, where two women try to survive through robbing banks. This will be the first opportunity for Foxx and Lawrence to work together on the big screen, with Screen Gems Clint Culpepper overseeing production.
There are two routes the movie can take. Skank Robbers served its purpose as a comedic interlude, but would be nothing more than a distraction from Soul Plane as worst African-American movie if transferred to the big screen as-is. However, a more respectful comedic setting such as witnessed in both Lawrence's and Foxx's original shows could produce a quality film instead of an embarrassment.
In the meantime, Foxx's Law Abiding Citizen is still in theatres with the romantic comedy Valentine's Day on the way. Lawrence, who has seen less success as a movie-star in recent years, will appear in the Screen Gems comedy Death at a Funeral.
