Obama Advisor, Jones, Dismisses Initial Reports of Afghanistan Decision

While several media sources claimed that President Barack Obama had decided to send 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan, National Security advisor James Jones denies that this is the case

Despite initial reports from media sources such as CBS News that President Barack Obama had come to a decision in regards to how to handle our nation's war in Afghanistan, National Security advisor James Jones has announced that the decision is still pending. CBS News reported earlier tonight that President Obama had decided to send 40,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan and that our forces would remain there for the long haul.

However, Jones has dismissed these reports in an e-mail statement that he made in response to the false accusations from the media. Interestingly enough, James clarified that President Obama has yet to receive the final options for handling the war in Iraq that he requested from the U.S. national security team and that potential alternatives have not been reviewed yet either.

National Security advisor James Jones clarified the situation in his e-mail, stating, "Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources." According to Bloomberg.com, government officials are not expecting President Obama to come to a final decision within the next couple of weeks. These officials have definitively confirmed that a decision will not be made before Obama's upcoming eight-day trip to Asia, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
