Winona Ryder to Sing 'Swan's' Song
Winona Ryder has signed on to star in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural thriller "Black Swan" opposite Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.
According to Variety.com, "Set in the ballet world of New York City, story centers on a veteran dancer (Portman) and a rival (Kunis) who are tangled in a manipulative relationship, but it's unclear whether the rival is real or a figment of the ballet dancer's imagination. Ryder will play a fellow dancer."
Academy Award nominated actress Barbara Hershey as well as French actor Vincent Cassel are also cast members. As for Kunis, her film credits include starring in the 2008 romantic comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and 2002's "American Psycho II: All American Girl."
Fox Searchlight is in negotiations to co-finance the pic and to distribute it locally. Cross Creek Pictures has already agreed to co-finance and has its Brian Oliver tapped to produce the film with Arnold Messer and Mike Medavoy of Phoenix Pictures and Scott Franklin of Protozoa Pictures, the production company behind the Academy Award nominated film "The Wrestler."
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "Shooting is scheduled to start in New York before the end of the year, with a budget estimated to be $10 million-$12 million."
Thanks to starring in some high-profle projects such as portraying Spock's mother in the summer snash "Star Trek," Ryder has begun to revive aher film career, which has been inactive for more than a decade.
Meanwhile, Ryder will next grace the silver screen in Rebecca Miller's "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" and is currently shooting a Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation for CBS entilted "When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story."
