2012 TV show in the works

2012 TV show will focus on what happens after the disaster.

The end-of-the-world feature film "2012" is being developed into a TV series. Roland Emmerich, director and producer of "2012," confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will pick up where the film ends.

"The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster," he said, adding that the focus will be on a group of survivors that were "not on the boats."

According to the EW report, "2012" executive producer Mark Gordon, who also produces "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," is talking with ABC about the show. Gordon said the network has an opening for "disaster-related" programs now that "Lost" is nearing the end. ABC has made no comments on the report.

"I think people would be interested in this topic on a weekly basis," Gordon said.

"2012" opens in theaters Nov. 13.
