Aerosmith Train Keeps a Rollin without Tyler
Looks like Steven Tyler's get up and go, just got up and went. Aerosmith has confirmed Tyler has left the band and they are currently searching for a new singer.
Guitarist Joe Perry took to his twitter account on Monday to satisfy fans with mounting questions about the band's status writing, "Aerosmith is definitely NOT breaking up ... one of the members is doing his own thing and said so in the press."
Perry is referencing a quote from a now infamous interview Tyler gave with Classic Rock magazine which indicated he had no future plans to tour with Aerosmith and was now focusing on "working on the brand of myself, brand Tyler."
Apparently this break up has all been played out in the press and no sit down discussions or phone calls were to be had for the men who were just shy of celebrating 40 years together in the same band and known endearingly in their drug heyday as "the toxic twins." Perry seemed to be taken off guard but not surprised to learn his friend and singer no longer shared the same band outlook.
Perry read quotes from Tyler online about wanting to focus on a solo career after getting off a plane as he told the Las Vegas Sun, "I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."
"He's notorious for that," Perry said. "That's one thing I've learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. Frankly, the last few months I've wanted not to rock the boat. I don't want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We just kind of didn't want to call him out or anything and get him anymore pissed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie. So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this online. That's how I know about it."
Weeks ago Perry had commented on the band's eagerness to get back into the studio and record another album. The band has not released a studio album since 2004's "Honkin on Bobo."Perry's final words on twitter were, "Aerosmith is positively looking for a new singer to work with. You just can't take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin. [The] band is playing hotter than ever and our songs need to be played live. Don't despair: Aerosmith is not splitting up. Promise that's the last you'll hear from me on the subject 'till we gear up again."
