Shaq and Wife head for Divorce Court
Shaquille O'Neal and his wife Va'shaundya have filed for legal separation after seven years of marriage.
Legal papers filed in Los Angeles on Monday cite "irreconcilable differences." Va'shaundya O'Neal is seeking sole custody of their four children, ages 3 to 9, with visitation for the basketball star as well as an unspecified amount of money for child support.
Va'shaundya signed a prenuptial agreement when she married Shaquille; however, she recently flew out to CA and declared herself a resident before filing separation papers. California holds more generous community-property divorce laws than her previous held residency in Florida.
This is the second time the couple have headed for divorce. The first was in 2007 when Shaq filed in a Miami-Dade County court, but later reconciled. The two were disputing over whether Shaquille was hiding money from his wife.
Representatives for both Va'shaundya and O'Neal weren't immediately available for comment.
